One of the main reasons nail wearers opt out of press-on nails is solving the long-wear puzzle. I made the switch about 3-4 years ago. You guessed correctly if you were thinking pandemic time.
I am an avid nail wearer but with not being able to head to the local nail salon, I decided to give press on nails another try. Before now, the last time I tried to apply them many years ago, they popped off while I tried to pull out a wedgie. I was done with them!! But with the conception of YouTube and all this free time I now had, I learned how to properly put them on. With a little trial and error, I found the method that worked best for me.
If I'm unable to make a fresh set or loving what I'm currently rocking, I can make my nails stay on for 3-4 weeks. Yes, even with household cleaning duties, daily work with machines at my job, lifting boxes, cooking, hair maintenance, and so forth.
During that extended stay-home vacation, we had the time to scroll, absorb content, and ride the wave of creative inspiration. Part of that for me was getting back into art and having fun expressing my imagination. I supported other small businesses, but then my family planted the bug in my ear to begin designing my own nails. Back to YouTube I went!
What started out as just a project for myself has now moved to sharing my art with others. During this journey, I encountered people who are hesitant about switching to wearing press on nails. Now we're back to that pesky durability issue. I may be able to help with that frustrating battle that leads to nail insecurity.
Top 3 Reasons Your Press On Nails Don't Stay on:
✨️ Improper Nail Prep: Make sure to clean up your natural nail bed and push your cuticles back. When done, wipe with an alcohol pad, file your natural nails, and file the back of your press on nails to remove the shine. Filing allows the nails to grip to each other.
✨️ Brand of Nail Glue: All glues are not the same, and that is true for any type of glue. If you're properly prepping the nails, but they still pop off in a couple of hours or days, then the culprit could be the nail glue. **Bonus tip: If the glue comes out gummy instead of as a liquid, your nails will not stick properly, and they will pop off while you're eating dinner in front of guests.**
✨️ Wrong Nail Size: If the press on nail is too wide for your nail bed, it will stick to your skin and will pop off while you're handing something to a coworker or client. 🫠 File down the sides of the nail and try it on first to make sure it fits just right. If you are feeling empowered and you have gel polish and a lamp, you can buff the top layer of the nail, apply a fresh topcoat, and cure. **Bonus tip: If the width is not the issue, then it's the curve of the nail tip that's not compatible with your natural nail bed.**
